Position Description:

QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from High School or General Education Development (GED) Certificate plus training and/or experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform fundamental duties. Must hold a current certification as a Certified Shorthand Reporter through the Supreme Court of Texas, and must keep certification current; Must perform real-time court reporting and have all necessary equipment and software for said court reporting. Must have knowledge and ability to apply correct English grammar, spelling, and punctuation, including legal and medical terminology; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the District Clerk's office and all parties involved in a case; knowledge of courtroom and legal terminology, and familiarity with courtroom procedures. Must have a valid Texas Driver's License.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: This is a responsible non-supervisory position. Duties include reporting all proceedings in the eight (8) district courts on a rotating basis as per schedule, providing real-time court reporting when requested to the Court. Must attend all court sessions and make a full record of court proceedings; preserve shorthand notes for future reference as applicable by law; furnish an accurate transcript of the proceedings as requested; receive all exhibits offered and received during a proceeding and file same with the District Clerk; Performs other related duties as assigned by the court. Other duties include subbing in for District Court Reporters due to illness or emergency situations or scheduled vacation; includes assignments to Visiting Judges, assignments to Juvenile Court, CPS Court, and includes a weekly Habeas Corpus Docket at the Carrizalez-Rucker Jail. This position is under the direction of the Local Administrative Judge. This is not a Civil Service covered position.
