Position Description:

Position Summary

 

A Certified Shorthand Reporter under general supervision, makes a verbatim record of court proceedings, produces transcripts, maintains & retrieves files, assists the public and performs general secretarial duties as needed.

 

Job Description

            1.         Must comply with the Code of Ethics and Chapter 52 of the Government Code.

            2.         Machine Shorthand verbatim record of all court proceedings.

            3.         Provide written transcripts of all proceedings upon request.

            4.         Planning and scheduling related to court reporting transcript deadlines.        

            5.         Report speaker’s identification.

            6.         Read back all or a portion of the proceedings upon request from the judges.

            7.         Ask speakers to clarify inaudible or unclear statements or testimony.

            8.         Provide copies of transcripts and recordings to the courts, counsel, and parties involved

            9.         Preserve shorthand notes for future reference, per statutory guidelines.

            10.       Mark and retain all exhibits introduced in court proceedings and later file as required

            11.       Assist in scheduling a Court Reporter to serve in your absence.

 

Education:

            1.         High School Diploma

            2.         Successful completion of Certified Shorthand Reporting Program

 

Skills & Experience

            1.         State of Texas Certified Shorthand Reporter (must be renewed as required.).

            2.         Ability to communicate effectively both spoken & in writing.

            3.         Ability to have effective working relationships with courthouse staff & public.

            4.         Ability to work effectively work under pressure.

            5.         Knowledge of computer equipment & software
