Position Description:
*The start date for this position is January 1, 2021 (01/01/2021).

We are currently looking for a Court Reporter to join the Comal County Court-At-Law #3. This is a full-time, non-exempt position.  Working under the general supervision of the CCAL Judge #3, the Court Reporter is required to have thorough knowledge of court reporting procedures to accurately record in shorthand court proceedings.  This individual will have frequent contact with the public and will be responsible for the preparation of statements of fact (transcripts) in all cases which are appealed from the trial court.  Attendance is an essential function of the job. 

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma or GED equivalent and a court reporting school certificate.  This individual must be a certified shorthand reporter.  Desired education and training would include two (2) years of college, two (2) years training in a recognized court reporting school, and four (4) years experience in the reporting field.   

 
RESPONSIBILITIES
 

 
  • Provide written transcripts of all proceedings appealed.
  • Make sure all exhibits introduced into evidence are preserved and receipted to the appropriate clerk for storage.
  • Record in shorthand verbatim all court proceedings, non-jury as well as jury.
  • Function as participating member of the Court's staff.
  • May perform function with CCAL #1 and #2 Court as required/directed by CCAL#3 Judge.
  • Exercise discretion and independent judgment in carrying out duties and responsibilities.
  • Attendance is an essential function of the job.
 
QUALIFICATIONS
 

 
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Two (2) years of college.
  • Two (2) years training in a recognized court reporting school.
  • Possess a certificate from the Texas Court Reporter Committee.
  • Four (4) years experience in the court reporting field.
  • Possess a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
  • Ability to maintain sensitive and confidential information and the highest ethical standards.
