DUES ARE NONREFUNDABLE.
Dues to TCRA are not deductible as a charitable contribution but may be donated as an ordinary and necessary business expense. However, a portion of dues is not deductible to the extent that TCRA engages in lobbying. The non-deductible portion of dues for FY 2025 is 49%.

  • VOTING MEMBERSHIPS:

    Professional Membership ($165). The following persons are eligible for Professional membership in TCRA:
      1. Any person who is an Official Court Reporter in the state of Texas by a system of machine shorthand reporting which employs the use of written symbols or letters and who is a holder of a current “Certified Shorthand Reporter” certificate issued by the Supreme Court of Texas. Said person must solely use the method of machine shorthand reporting by which the “Certified Shorthand Reporter” test was passed.
      2. Any person who is engaged in the practice of deposition reporting or general reporting in the state of Texas by a system of machine shorthand reporting which employs the use of written symbols or letters and who is a holder of a current “Certified Shorthand Reporter” certificate issued by the Supreme Court of Texas. Said person must solely use the method of machine shorthand reporting by which the “Certified Shorthand Reporter” test was passed.
      3. Any person who is a Communication Access Realtime Translation (“CART”) provider and/or Broadcast Captioner in the state of Texas by a system of machine shorthand reporting which employs the use of written symbols or letters and who is a holder of a current “Certified Shorthand Reporter” certificate issued by the Supreme Court of Texas. Said person must solely use the method of machine shorthand reporting by which the “Certified Shorthand Reporter” test was passed. Said person must hold a current Texas Court Reporters Association specialization exam certificate and/or current National Court Reporters Association certificate in the field of CART and/or Broadcast Captioning.
         
  • Retired Membership ($44). Any person who has been a Professional member for at least ten (10) years and who is no longer engaged in any aspect of shorthand reporting shall be eligible for Retired Membership.

    NON-VOTING MEMBERSHIPS:

    TCRA will also have two (2) classes of Non-Voting Members, who shall not be considered members as such term is defined in the Act.
    1. Student ($44). An individual whose current enrollment in a court reporting program may be verified by an instructor at the time of joining or renewing membership. *Must be currently enrolled and in actual attendance in a court reporting program, this is NOT for out-of-state court reporters wanting to become licensed in Texas. If you are an out-of-state court reporter wanting to become a TCRA member, please submit the Associate application.
    2. Associate ($165).
        1. Any person or representative of a firm, corporation, or educational institution interested in the advancement of the machine shorthand reporting profession in the state of Texas and the advancement of the aims of the Texas Court Reporters Association shall be eligible for Associate Membership provided that the person or representative of a firm, corporation or educational institution is not engaged or involved in the promotion of digital software as a sole means of reporting and/or recording the record.
        2. Any person who practices shorthand reporting by their tested method and has passed the National Court Reporters Association Registered Professional Reporter or Registered Merit Reporter examinations.
        3. Any person who holds an Apprentice or Provisional license issued by the Judicial Branch Certification Commission, provided that the person is not engaged or involved in the promotion of digital software as a sole means of reporting and/or recording the record.
          *If you are an out-of-state court reporter wanting to become a TCRA member, please submit the Associate application.
